An unpleasant situation for the mayor of Tetovo and leader of Besa, Biljal Kasamitook place yesterday in the Albanian city of Valona, at the official reception in the framework of the celebration of the Albanian Flag Day, November 28, and the 113th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Albania.
In a video that is circulating on social networks and in the media, it is seen as the Albanian prime minister Eddie Rama moves through the crowd and reaches the place where Kasami is standing, after which he greets some of the people who are with him, including the Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Fatmir Limani.
But when Rama was expected to greet Kasami as well, the Albanian prime minister completely ignored the Tetovo mayor and continued to move among the people at the reception.
In the Albanian-language media and on social networks, the video triggered an avalanche of reactions and comments, as well as interpretations about the possible reasons for the ignoring. Some of the comments note that the Albanian Prime Minister’s cold attitude was due to the closeness between Kasami and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with whom Rama is not on the best of terms. Others, on the other hand, say that it seemed as if Rama did not even know who the people he was greeting were, so it is very likely that he did not know Kasami at all.
